Western Pennyroyal is also known as American Pennyroyal. It is a member of the mint family, having a square stem and tending to not grow higher than 12". It has small, dark-green, opposite leaves and straight, unbranched, 6" stems radiating from the roots. During early summer the tips of the stems are covered with lavender or purple flower tufts. The scent is very pleasant and aromatic, a cross between citrus and camphor.

Pennyroyal is a valued medicinal herb, used topically for colds and insect repellant.

Sprinkle the tiny Pennyroyal seeds on the surface of a flat filled with soil, and water very gently. Transplant the seedlings 6" apart in a sunny garden spot.
