Sagebrush Mariposa lily, is a North American species of bulbous perennials in the lily family.  The plant is native to the Northwestern United States (Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and western Montana), northern California, northern Nevada, and a small area of southern British Columbia. Habitats include the Great Basin and Cascade Range.  The leaves are blue-green and grass-like. The flowers are large, bloom in June, are three-petaled, and are pink and purple. The bulbs are tapering, like a carrot. First peoples in southern British Columbia harvested the bulbs from April to June.

Sow seeds in mid-autumn in prepared garden bed to 1/8th of an inch deep covering with a mixture peat and well-rotted compost. Seeds germinate in the spring after chilling or freezing over the winter. Alternatively, sow seeds in small individual pots and stratify in a garage or other cold place over winter. Keep soil moist but not wet.

Seeds should sprout in the spring. Set pots out after chance of last frost. Keep out of direct sunlight. When seedlings are 4-5 inches tall, plant out in prepared garden area.
