Lewis Monkeyflower

$3.95

Erythranthe lewisii

zones 3-5

100 seeds

This plant species needs to grow near streams, ponds or where they can keep their roots constantly wet. Monkeyflowers are so-called because some species have flowers shaped like a monkey’s face. Others have painted faces resembling a monkey. Lewis Monkeyflowers have showy pink-purple or magenta flowers.

Seeds are best sown in the autumn directly outdoors along edges of ponds, streams, or wet meadows in loamy soil. The minute seed should be mixed with potting soil, then broadcast onto the prepared area and gently watered in. Stored seeds will need cold stratification for 2 months and sown as early as possible in the spring. Germination, especially of stored seed, is slow. Plants will not flower until the second year.
